THURSDAY, OCTOBER 24 - MANAGEMENT MATTERS:  PREVENTING EMPLOYEE LEGAL CHALLENGES
Robert Abel, R. E. Abel & Associates - 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Know the potential legal minefields that business owners and managers can blunder into when hiring, paying, evaluating, disciplining, or terminating employees.  Whether you are a small or larger business, a number of employment laws affect how you should handle employees to ensure fairness, good performance and avoid charges that could cost you time, legal fees and reputation in the community.  This session will provide an overview of the most relevant employment laws and how certain practices, such as having certain actions, such as disclaimers on your application form and consistently followed disciplinary procedures, can prevent legal action from employees and former employees.

NOTE:  On Campus participants will then follow the 2024 On the Road agenda Thursday afternoon, October 24 through Friday, October 25.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 26 - CONTRACTS

Paul T. Jenson, Partner, Taft Law - 8:30 - 11:30 a.m.
This session will increase your understanding of various legal principles and issues you need to know about your business:  contracts; remedies available under law; tort liability for equipment and supervision, licenses, games of skill/chance, etc.  Participants will have an opportunity to ask specific questions related to legal concerns that are of interest to others in the music and games industry.

About the On Campus Program

Since 1972, AMOA and the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana have maintained a partnership to provide continuing education for all experience levels.  This program consists of four sessions and has evolved to two sessions held in person at the university in the Spring and two sessions held in conjunction with AMOA’s On the Road Program in the Fall.

Students graduate from the program with a professional “Business Executive” certificate.  Each session features in-demand speakers, hands-on training, and plenty of networking opportunities.
